Sandeep Malani bags Best Supporting Actor Award for Mookavismitha

Mangaluru, Sep 10: Sandeep Malani has just bagged an award for his performance in the Kannada film Mookavismitha at the prestigious 7th Indian Cine Film Festival held in Mumbai on the September 8. With about 374 entries to the festival with films from all over India in different languages and a few foreign films also to compete in the section, Sandeep has just missed out on the Best Actor with two marks to get the coveted award instead has won the one and only Best Supporting Actor Award. This award was given for his wonderful performance as he had played the character of Hiriyanna, an egoistic and strict Havyaka Brahmin to perfection.

Mookavismitha also stars Pushpa Raghavendra, Chandra Keerthi, Shubha Raksha, Krupa Prahalad and others. The film is a directorial debut of Gurudutt Sreekanth.

The awards were given in different categories to all the films that were in the competitive section and those films include from filmmakers of Bengaluru, Chennai, Kerala, Bengali, Marathi, Odiya, Nepali and other parts of the country, besides German, Chinese, Korean, Brazil films were also screened.

On receiving the award, Malani expresses his feelings as he told over the press conference, “In my entire career of 27 years in this film industry and having worked in multiple languages, a few of my films (SMS 6260, Jo Jo Laali, Sulige Sikkidaaga, Shaayad, Yeh Cinemaa Hai) have won awards for me as Best Director, Best Film and my lead actress Kalpana Pandit for Best Actress and other cast and crew have been honoured with awards. But this has been for the first time, I have received an award for myself as an actor and that is a wonderful feeling. With this award bestowed on me, I look forward to give my best performance in my forthcoming films and look forward to receive more awards.”

Malani, currently is into full time acting and has about 17 films of his on floors, some on shoot and some ready for release. These films in various languages include Yuvarathna, Rewind and DD (in Kannada), Puyalil Oru Thoni, College Kumar in Tamil, Alshi Rede in Konkani, 420 Joklu in Tulu, Shakeela, Mr Kishore Kumar, Filmi Rasleela in Hindi and some untitled ventures in Telugu and Malayalam as well. With having won appreciation from the critics and the viewers for his performance in the Odiya film ‘Champion’, he has been in the race for the nomination for the award and also has bagged another Odiya film that will go on floors this October.
