Mangaluru: Scorpio with students from MIT rams into truck – Two dead, nine injured

Mangaluru, Sep 7: Two people were killed and nine others injured in an accident that took place between a Scorpio and a truck at Chelyar cross near Mukka here on Saturday, September 7.

The deceased have been identified as Gloria (22), and Arpana (22), both engineering students, studying at MIT Architecture School of Manipal. Gloria died on the spot. Arpana died at the hospital failing to respond to treatment.

The rented Scorpio car was carrying 11 students. The car reportedly crossed a median and hit the truck which was coming from Udupi.

The Scorpio was badly mangled due to the impact of the crash. 

Police shifted the injured to hospital and cleared road for traffic.

    So sorry for the families of the deceased. I have rented this exact same scorpio(3465) several times from zoomcar, sorry to say but the safety standards are not up to the mark. NOT ONE FUCKING AIRBAG in the 7 seater

    Hi Rushil,

    I don't think airbags would have made any difference. Look at the way the Scorpio has mangled. Having said that, I am totally in support for more mandatory safety features for vehicles. In addition to safety features, the driver must also drive safely. I am still amazed by how the car crossed the median and crashed into an oncoming truck. Looks like the Scorpio was being driven at a very high speed .

    All said and done, I pray for the families of these students and pray for the recovery of the injured.

    Indian roads are not for speed it’s just means to reach destination. In most of the highways you find either cows or unexpected vehicles from opposite sides it confuses driver .

    Earlier days our MIGHTY AMBASSADOR was called strong car without much impact in case of accidents but now these hi fi cars only for showcase !! even there is safety at all even in 60 speed of crushing !!! LOL
