Udupi, Aug 17: In a shocking incident, a 38-year-old woman and her 80-year-old mother-in-law were attacked by robbers in broad daylight.

On Saturday, August 17, at around 11.30 am, two masked men forcefully gained entry into the house of Firdous (38), located near Ashirward Bar in Udupi. The men attacked Firdous and her mother-in-law and looted the gold and other valuables in the house.

Immediately after the robbers left, Firdous managed to call her husband and children studying in college. However, by the time they reached, both women were seriously injured and lying in an unconscious state. They were rushed to Adarsh hospital in Udupi and are currently undergoing treatment.

When the women were attacked, they screamed and this alerted other locals in the surroundings. The robbers fled after the commotion. The Udupi town police visited the crime scene and also visited the women in the hospital.

However, as both the women are not in a condition to speak, they could not obtain many details. The police suspect that someone has kept a watch over the family and planned the robbery when men were not present in the house.

The family members of Firdous have filed a complaint at Udupi town police station. The police have taken the daylight robbery seriously. The police have got the crime scene checked by forensic experts and also the dog squad.

Circle inspector Manjunath and CPI Padmanabh visited the crime scene to investigate.
