Kundapur: Postman missing - Suspected to have been washed away in rivulet

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Aug 15: Robert Banj (35), a resident of Hadavu, who was delivering postal articles and letters, went missing after falling in a rivulet. The incident happened at Nada Guddeangady near Gangolli on Wednesday August 14.

Robert had moved in his scooter towards Guddeangady. On the way, he had taken Walter Fernandes, a local, in his two-wheeler, and dropped him off on the way at his destination. He went ahead with the stated purpose of delivering the remaining postal letters, but did not return for long. A search operation was thereafter launched for him.

A scooter was found by the side of the rivulet at Nada estuary while footwear was found floating in the rivulet. It is suspected that Robert, who was walking by the edge of the rivulet with umbrella hand in a narrow path, would have lost balance because of strong wind and rain, and fallen into the rivulet.

A case in this connection was registered in Gangolli police station.

It is so sad that the postman went missing while crossing a rivulet on a rickety bridge. I hope he is found as soon as possible and the family must be having a tough time.

This walking bridge looks very dangerous. How authority can give this to public to use, without any safety reelings to hold while walking. HORRIBLE.....
