Nigerian woman held for identity theft, faces 3-month jail, deportation

Dubai, Aug 7: A 32-year-old Nigerian housewife accused of stealing another woman’s Id is sentenced to three months in Jail by a Dubai court. The Nigerian woman has been arrested with incident that took place on June 24. A case against her was filed in Bur Dubai police station. In addition to that, court also ordered the housewife be deported.

An Egyptian receptionist recounts the incident where the accused was wearing a wig and made a booking online, the accused then presented an Emirates ID belonging to a Ugandan woman. The booking was also done in the Ugandan woman's name. He found the woman’s activity odd after which he alerted the hotel management.

"When the manager approached her, she ran away and her wig fell off. He chased her and the security guards helped catch and restrain her," the Egyptian had told the investigator. The account manager at the hotel supported the receptionist's statement.

The housewife will be given a right to appeal the ruling within 15 days from the date it was issued.
