Jerusalem, Sep 14: Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Sunday described India as a "true friend of Israel," while expressing his gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu for her warm greetings on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
Responding to President Murmu's wishes on social media platform X, Herzog wrote: "Thank you, President Droupadi Murmu, for your good wishes. On behalf of the people of Israel, I extend our deepest gratitude. India is a true friend of Israel. As we begin the Jewish New Year, I wish you and the wonderful people of India peace, prosperity, good health, and harmony. May the deep bond of friendship between our two nations continue to flourish."
On Saturday, President Murmu had conveyed her greetings to President Herzog and the people of Israel on behalf of India.
"Excellency Isaac Herzog, on behalf of the people of India, I convey heartfelt Rosh Hashanah greetings to you and the Jewish community across Israel and the world. May the new year usher in peace, prosperity, good health and renewed hope for all," the President's Secretariat stated on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his wishes to his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu and the global Jewish community. "Shana Tova! Wishing a very happy Rosh Hashanah to Prime Minister Netanyahu, the people of Israel and Jewish communities across the globe. May the new year be filled with peace, hope, good health and continued progress for all," PM Modi posted on X.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar similarly conveyed greetings to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, wishing peace, prosperity, and good health for the people of Israel in the new year.
Rosh Hashanah marks the Jewish New Year, traditionally celebrated as the "head of the year" and commemorating the creation of the world.
