Mangaluru, May 29: The city police, on Tuesday May 28, registered a first information report against 'Manikya Associates', the agency which sent 35 young people from Dakshina Kannada district to Kuwait on the promise of employment there.
As per the rules, agencies which appoint people abroad need to possess licence under the Emigration act. But the said agency does not have any licence to operate, the police reportedly found during the course of investigation.
At the same time, relatives of the young people who have been facing a tricky situation at Kuwait have also filed cheating complaint against the agency on behalf of the people in distress.
It is said that Prasad Shetty, who represents the said placement agency, had collected Rs 65,000 from each of these youngsters. But the youths who relied on the promise made by the agency and left for Kuwait have been stranded there since the last six months. They have not got a proper employment and do not have food to eat. Although they had contacted the Indian Embassy there, they did not get any help, it is said.
The distressed young men have therefore contacted the MLA here and other people for help. Their request was made through a video posted in social media. This video had become viral some days back.
Though many people have offered various helps to the youths in trouble, they are yet to be sent back home due to many hurdles.
