Msgr Leslie Shenoy donates ancestral house to Mangaluru Diocese

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 15: The house in which Msgr Leslie Shenoy was born and brought up, 'Casa de Padre', at Urwa here was donated by his family to the diocese of Mangaluru for the purpose of seminary formation on Tuesday May 14 , after the Eucharistic celebration held at the venue. Sr Hilde Garde, sister of Msgr Leslie Shenoy, handed over the keys of the house to Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, on behalf of the family.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Msgr Leslie Shenoy on the occasion of his 43 rd priestly ordination anniversary along with Bishop Emeritus Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza and Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru.

Bishop Peter Paul preached the homily on missionary discipleship, shared the thoughts about the life of St Mathias who was chosen by lot to replace Judas. He also mentioned that this house will be used to form the missionary disciples for the diocese of Mangalore.

After the Mass, a short felicitation programme was held. Msgr Lesslie cut his priestly anniversary cake. Bishop Peter Paul honoured him with a shawl and flowers. The Bishop Emeritus was felicitated on the 23 rd year of his Episcopal ordination with a garland by the Bishop.

Msgr Leslie Shenoy thanked all the priests and lay faithful present at the programme.

It is indeed a generous and commendable gesture on the part of Fr. Leslie to gift his ancestral house to a very worthy cause likely to benefit prospective young men considering priesthood as well as the mission of the Church. It was my privilege to have enjoyed the hospitality of his mother and the family starting with Leslie’s Ordination reception in this house. This might be an appropriate opportunity to make a little correction in the Spanish name which should be ‘Casa del padre’ and not ‘..de padre’.. In view of possible future priests likely to originate from this house it might even be relevant to call it now ‘casa de Los padres’, meaning house of the (future) fathers.

A noble gesture and this is what happens when one has ancestral property that no one wants to own. It is better to donate for a holy cause.

I have seen many houses in Mangalore where no one even has access to, but is preserved just for sentiments years together.

    Dear Msgr Leslie Shenoy,
As true disciple of our Lord, this gesture of your's, to donate your ancestral house to the service of God is truly praiseworthy. In these modern, materialistic world, people who try to gather more and more wealth by means of various worldly desires, (including the clergies) you came out to be an exceptional disciple of Lord. I am a big fan of your homilies and had got few chances to listen to your homilies in the recent past at Bejai church. May God grant you good health and bless your family abundantly. Look forward to seeing you in the near future.
