Belthangady, Jan 21: Indian Catholic Youth Movement, Christ King Church, Venur, celebrated its golden jubilee on January 20 at Venur in all grandeur.
The celebration began with a flag hoisting ceremony at the church ground at 10 am. The flag consisting ICYM and golden jubilee logo was hoisted by Nagraj SE, sub inspector of Venur police station. Addressing the gathering he said, “Youth are the building blocks to build a better country. Their ideas, creative minds and developing technology are going to give a wonderful shape for the world in future.”
Thereafter a solar lamp was inaugurated near Navachethan School in the memory of Golden jubilee celebration of ICYM, Venur. The solar street lamp was inaugurated by the parish priest Rev Fr Stany Rodrigues.
The grand evening started with a procession from town to church at 3.30 pm. After the procession, mass was held in the presence of bishop of Mangaluru diocese Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.
The official ceremony of golden jubilee celebration started at 6pm. Harish Poonja, MLA of Belthangady Vidhan Sabha region, Rev Fr Ronald D'souza, youth director of central council Mangaluru diocese were the chief guests for the ceremony.
The bishop addressed the gathering with the words of appreciation towards the ICYM youth of Venur unit. Fr Basil Vas, youth director of Belthangady deanery, Fr Anthony Lewis, Rohan Lobo, Fr Jaison Monis, Fr Benjamin, Muhammad Farooq, taluk minority officer, Jaison Pereira, president of ICYM Manglore diocese, Vivian Fernandes, president of ICYM Belthangady deanery were the honorary guests who were present in the ceremony .
ICYM Venur felicitated all the former presidents, coordinators, directors and achievers who served in the unit from the last 50 years. Rev Fr Stany Rodrigues felicitated bishop of Mangaluru diocese.
After the formal programme, a cultural programme was performed by ICYM members. Telikeda Tenali team, Karkala, mesmerized the audience with their acting skills. Arun Crasta, panchayat vice president and golden jubilee committee president, Ronal D’Souza, parish pastoral vice president, Steevan D’Cuhna, parish pastoral secretary, Anup Pais, golden jubilee committee secretary, Sr Wilma D'sa and Arun D'souza coordinators of ICYM Venur, Delson D’Souza, president of ICYM Venur, Reshma Fernandes, secretary of ICYM Venur were present in the programme.
Arun Crasta welcomed the gathering and Anup Pais conveyed the words of gratitude. Wilson D’Souza, Ronson Tellis and Ninet Moras hosted the event.
