Mercury continues to soar in Dakshina Kannada

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 26: As the mercury continues its upward climb in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district, residents are facing increasing discomfort due to the sweltering heat. The relentless rise in temperature has been a cause for concern among the public, with no respite in sight.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the dry weather conditions are expected to persist in the region for the next few days, with no chances of rainfall. This prolonged dry spell has exacerbated the heatwave, making it difficult for residents to cope with the scorching temperatures.

In addition to Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts, the IMD has issued warnings of possible heatwaves in North Karnataka, Hyderabad Karnataka, and various districts of South Karnataka until April 29. Temperatures are forecasted to rise by at least two to three degrees in the coming days, further intensifying the heatwave conditions.

In Mangaluru, the highest temperature recorded on Thursday soared to 35.2 degrees Celsius, while the lowest dipped to 26.7 degrees Celsius. With heat and humidity levels on the rise, residents are urged to take necessary precautions to stay safe and hydrated during this period of extreme weather.

The rise in the temperature is not because of Panauti or anything the readers clearly want to vent their ire on. Lets's be fair. I am of the opinion that this is a direct result of the reckless felling of trees all over the country. Go to any town or city in India and you will very clearly see buildings in place of trees. Even cooler places like Mercara have not been spared. We have mercilessly cut down trees due to which we are experiencing this kind of heat. This was only to be expected. There is no use complaining about that. We have dug our own graves. As simple as that. Bangalore was not like this 25 years back. It was called the garden city of India. And what have we made of that garden city. All of us are paying the price for our selfish deeds. We have hacked our legs with our own hands. Can we in any way retrieve the situation. Although the damage has been inflicted, perhaps we can try to some extent. Very soon the monsoon will commence. The least we can do is to plant a few saplings wherever we can and nurture them. That it the only way we can atone for our sins.
