Udupi: Polling personnel reach polling station, DC monitoring every movement

Udupi, April 25: Polling personnel reached 1,842 polling stations with EVMs here. Details of every second is being obtained from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency. “The personnel and staff have reached the polling booths this evening, April 25 with EVMs and other tools safely,” said deputy commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari.

She was speaking after obtaining information in the war room established to collect details of the elections.

The officials had reached 1,842 polling booths from Udupi–Chikkamagaluru mastering center of the Lok Sabha constituency from eight Vidhana Sabha constituencies. 90% of the personnel had reached by 4 pm and information of them safely reaching the polling booths was obtained at 6.50 pm. They have also conducted preparations for polling on Friday, April 26, from 7 am till 6 pm.

Officials and staff working in 866 polling booths of the four Vidhana Sabha constituencies had used 252 GPS installed bus and other light vehicles to carry EVMs. Their GPS was tracked at war room.

The DC said that instant assistance will be provided during lapses in the machines and if there are any law and order issues. “The percentage of polling is obtained from every polling booth once in two hours and provided to the media representatives by the team of officials,” she said.

“A district level team is formed to watch webcasting, GPS tracking systems and to repair EVMs during issues. The team will work from 5.30 am till the polling gets over.  There are 866 polling booths in the district. Web casting has been installed at 791 polling booths. Every movement in the polling booth will be watched directly from the war room,” she said.

Joint director of the industries centre, agricultural department joint director Chandrashekar, district spokesperson Manjunath B, DC office war room staff and others were present.
