Chicago: MKCA presents rich Indian culture at ‘Christmas Around the World’ event

Chicago (USA), Dec 5: In the midst of Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago’s 77th 'Christmas Around the World and Gather Round' event, the Mangalorean Konkan Christian’s Association (MKCA), USA, presented variety of cultural activities to showcase the rich cultural heritage of India. This was the 16th programme in succession presented by MKCA, USA, at this annual cultural jamboree. In this mega event, people from different ethnic backgrounds representing more than 65 countries (including India) participated. It was a unique experience for MKCA, USA, to represent India in this event.

The museum halls were decked, holiday singers and dancers fuel the festivities, and the sparkle of dozens of decorated trees greeted all at the 77th annual Christmas Around the World and Gather Round. The museum’s 45-foot grand tree took center stage in the Rotunda with more than 30,000 lights and 1,000 ornaments, and it is surrounded by more than 65 smaller trees – beautifully decorated by volunteers from Chicago’s ethnic communities to represent the country of origin’s culture and holiday traditions.

President Vissia D’Souza welcomed the audience present for the programme, which presents India’s rich cultural heritage. The compere and the chairperson of the programme Queenie Mendonca introduced two vibrant ethnic dance groups of Chicagoland area of Northbrook. The culture In Motion Dance Studio Team provided Bollywood medleys of dances which highlight the sights and sounds of India. The owner and instructor of this dance team is Reemlee Chowdhury. The second esteemed group of dancers from Soorya Dance Academy, headed by owner and instructor Jinoo Varghese provided spectacular dances representing classical and semi-classical groups. All the audience thoroughly enjoyed the dances presented in glittering ethnic costumes and were thrilled to witness the variety, serenity and high voltage dances presented.

The MKCA, USA Choir Group under the leadership of Concy Mesquita (piano) assisted by Suraj Mesquita (flute), presented Christmas carols in Konkani and English. The grand entry of Santa Claus, mesmerised the children present with his unique personality and rhythmic moves.

It was announced that MKCA is poised to celebrate its annual gala programme of Nathal Fest or Christmas Party on December 15, at St Hubert’s Church in Schaumburg and directed them to follow-up with mkcausa.org website for further information.
