Kundapur: Rape-accused gets ten years jail term

Kundapur, Nov 10: The district and additional sessions court here sentenced Nagaraja Mahadev Harikant from Dhareshwar in Kumta to ten years of imprisonment. A fine of Rs 40,000 was also imposed through a judgement delivered by the judge of the court, Prakash Khanderi on Friday November 9.

Harikant was facing the charge of raping a lady by promising her marriage at a lodge in Kollur. Later, he had severed connections with her.

Nagaraj was charged with befriending a lady from Honnavar and taking her to a lodge at Kollur in the year 2013. After assuring that he would marry her, he raped her. Within a month thereafter, he entered into alliance with another girl and got engaged to marry her. The distressed girl then complained to Kollur police.

District public prosecutor, Prakashchandra Shetty appeared on behalf of the prosecution in the case.
