Mangaluru: Murder attempt on rationalist Prof Narendra Nayak, complaint lodged

Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Mar 17: City based rationalist Prof Narendra Nayak has complained at Urwa police that some miscreants tried to attack him on the morning of Wednesday March 15.

Prof Narendra Nayak currently holds the position of president of Federation of Indian Rationalists Associations.

As per the details in the complaint, Prof Nayak had left his home at Ladyhill at 6.25 am to go to the swimming pool at Mangala Stadium. At the time, two unknown people tried to stop his car. When he did not stop, they told him that his car had a puncture. But Nayak did not stop the car and instead went to a petrol station nearby and checked the tyre. He found that the tyre was perfect without any puncture.

Prof Nayak says in the complaint that the miscreants followed him and it seemed to him by their behaviour and actions that they were about to assault or kill him.

In the recent past Prof Nayak has been trying to get justice for the family of murdered RTI activist Vinayaka Baliga. For the past six months, Nayak has been provided with a gunman during daytime. But on Wednesday, Nayak left home before the gunman arrived.

Urwa police have registered a case and CCB police have been asked to investigate.

Speaking about the complaint and security of the complainant, city police commissioner Chandra Shekar said that another gunman will be deployed at night time to provide security to Prof Nayak.

Why some people in forum openly supporting the KILLERS and MURDERERS? It looks like some of them were involved in Baliga's Murder and now trying their best to silence Prof. Nayak. Shame on them who support the KILLERS.

In a land of fanaticism, fundamentalism, ritualism, dogmatism and pseudo-nationalism without concern, reason and thought there can only be death to the seekers, rationalists and the tolerant. They disturb the intolerant. Didn't we kill Mahatma Gandhi? And others who paid a price for their conviction. Unless the fanaticism of the majority which in fact is in a minority is got rid of citizens cannot be safe.

    Mr
Fanaticism wether from majority or minority is dangerous. This incident is condemnable. every one has a right to live with respect. Atheism is not a crime. However, there are countries where atheists are put to death. changing to atheism is considered as apostacy punishable with death. Eg: Saudi Arabia.

This is totally unacceptable to Mangalorean culture. There is no doubt that people involved in Baliga's murder are the prime suspects trying to eliminate Prof. Nayak.
Police have done nothing find the master minds behind Baliga's murder

Look at the irony, the murderer who got bail was welcomed with flower Garland's when he walked out, continues to roam around assaulting people with his goonda Raj. Whereas people who are fighting for the sake of victim can't go out without gunman and protection.
