Mangalore, Oct 14: In an effort to provide some fun to the differently abled children, J R Lobo, Mangalore South MLA has revealed a plan of providing a special play area for such children at Kadri Park.

“Rs 15 lakhs have been sanctioned from the MLA fund for this purpose. People from all over the city visit the park, the biggest park in Mangalore. The proposed special park will be very helpful for the differently abled children to have some fun. A smaller park with the same concept has already come up in Gandhi Nagar with the estimated amount of Rs 5 lakhs” said Lobo on Tuesday October 14, at Kadri Park in Mangalore.

Lobo showed his concern for the equipment damaged with rust in the children’s park by saying “If the people are ready to donate some money, then we can fix this problem."

“I thought special children also should get happiness and fun in life. Being a parent of such a kid, I know the trauma and the pain the children experience as they are kept isolated from the society. The MLA certainly deserves praise for making my dream come true” said Kala Deepak, mother of a differently abled child, who had put forth the idea of special park for differently abled children in the presence of the MLA.

“As the differently abled children are not able to engage in recreational activities with the equipments installed for normal kids, specially designed equipments will be put in place for the blind and handicapped children among others, thus ensuring that the children do not get injured while playing.” Mayor Mahabala, Mayor Mangalore City Corporation said speaking on the same occasion.

Architect Venkatesh Pai is in charge of the project. The special park will be open to children in three months time.

The Bala Bhavan attached to Kadri Park is always closed and useless even though it has many facilities for children to play. All those items kept for playing are just rusting due to disuse.

Uplift of Kadri park means some realty business nearby must be of interest as better and more customers get attracted to the area due to the nice park. Else why the MLA is so interested in this than other places of Mangalore which also need special attention.

The lights are put on only in the front of the park.there are no lights on the side facing highway and the other sides of the park. A one section of the walkway is deliberately neglected. Interlock is not put there, just like mangalore roads which are done only partially with no foot paths and big ditches on either side. There is no toilet facility within the park.to go to the existing pay and use toilet one has to either come out and go through road or take a scary route through inside.there are also plenty of stray dogs within the park

Mr. Lobo - To ease your headaches, why don't you hand over the park to some professional company for complete maintenance and upkeep. They can charge the public a nominal entry fee and balance maintenance charges can be given by the corporation. This will give you plenty of peace and publicity also. Try this out please.

The old deer park area should be utilized for these children. They should not be made to cross the road. The bhel puri and sugar cane juice hawkers have covered up the area.

All bogus promises only. Lobo said last time that the park will be cleaned within a weeks time. But now since from two months the condition is same.

    Dear Mr. Bhandary,
I have been regular user of the Park. I observe that this is the first time the weeds are cleared during Monsoon and area looks much better than it used to.

I am sure this has happened because of someones effort and I have found out that Mr. Lobo is relentlessly following on this very aspect.

Yes the park has a long way to go...let us wait and see..

Reserve special area for lovers on chargeable basis. No need of any monetary help from govt. for the maintenance of the park.
