Mangalore: SAC celebrates 134th College Day

It was a joyous occasion on Friday March 7 as St Aloysius College (autonomous) celebrated its 134th College Day with a grand event that saw a number of students getting honoured and many more showcasing their talents before a packed audience.
 
J R Lobo, MLA, Mangalore South, was the chief guest while Fr Denzil Lobo, rector of St Aloysius College, presided. Before the formal function began, the students showcased their talents in a cultural and entertainment extravaganza.

Dr A M Narahari, registrar of St Aloysius College, welcomed the guests and a floral welcome was given to all the dignitaries present on the dais.
 
Fr Sweebert D'Silva, principal, St Aloysius College, presented the annual report.
 
Chief guest J R Lobo in his speech, said that he is honoured to be the chief guest at the event and thanked the institution for inviting him.
 
He said, “St Aloysius College has a prestigious place in this region from the past 134 years. This college has shaped innumerable stars for the future. The college is preparing the students not only to face the future, but also to be very courageous. Youngsters must use the opportunities in this college to shape their future. The keen desire of learning in our life is to achieve something. Life is always precious; at the same time, time is also very precious. Today, more than 60 percent of our country belongs to our youngsters. If they do not have a vision or goal, our country will never develop. Our country's future lies in their hands.”
 
Fr Denzil Lobo, in his presidential speech, briefed about the college's educational quality, their facilities, and benefits of studying in the college.
 
He added, “We want our students to be very competent. We are living in an era where we have seen scams and corruptions. We require a honest person to prevent these bad things.”
 
A prize distribution ceremony followed, during which a number of students were awarded for their achievements in extra-curricular activities and academics.
 
Ponnanna N T, president of the student council, proposed the vote of thanks.
 
Choir for the college day was trained by lecturer Dimple Pinto and Fr Francis D'Almeida.
 
The whole college day programme was compered by Neil, Rashmi, Razina, Pragathi, Alric, Genevieve, and Deepika Vasani.
 
Dr George Rodrigues, Fr Pradeep, John D'Silva, Fr Walter Andrade, Judith Carlo, and Fr Oswald were also present at the ceremony.
