Mangaluru: Sexual harassment of girl - Accused sentenced to seven years RI

Mangaluru, Aug 15: Accusation of sexual harassment of a girl belonging to Scheduled Caste is proven in the additional district and sessions (POCSO) FTSC-1 court of the city and the court awarded seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fine to Sudhakar Poojary, resident of Mangaluru.

On December 4, 2014, Sudhakar had enticed the girl, kidnapped and took her to Mysuru with the intention of sexually harassing her. He tied mangalsutra to her in Pandavapura Basavanagudi temple and they were living together at Bevinakoppa in a rented house at Pandavapura. He sexually harassed the girl against her wish.

A case in this regard was filed at rural police station under POCSO. The then ACP of south division R R Kalyan Shetty had filed chargesheet in the court.

Judge Manjula Itti pronounced the quantum of punishment on August 12. Sudhakar was given seven years rigorous imprisonment for sexual harassment and five years for kidnapping the girl. In addition, Sudhakar is slapped with fine also. The court ordered to pay compensation to the victim.

Special public prosecutor Sahanadevi argued for the prosecution.
