Mangaluru: Row erupts over Veer Savarkar flex on Suratkal flyover pillar

Mangaluru, Aug 15: Controversy erupted after miscreants wrote ‘freedom fighter Veer Savarkar circle’ on the pillar of Suratkal flyover and also hung a flex which has the image of Savarkar.

SDPI Suratkal unit expressed objection for the writing as well as the flex and brought the same to the attention of the police. The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials removed the flex after commissioner Akshy Sridhar issued the orders for the same after he received a complaint.

Earlier, some youths who were present there resorted to displaying Tipu Sultan Circle flex.

Speaking on the issue, MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty said, “There is a proposal to change the name of Suratkal circle to Veer Savarkar circle by obtaining permission from MCC.”

Aboobacker of SDPI said that Suratkal is a communally sensitive area and they contacted the officials immediately. He also said that they oppose the naming of Suratkal circle as Veer Savarkar circle.

    It’s ridiculous that people are least bothered about the miserable condition of roads, absence of parking spaces, footpaths or the rampant corruption. They are fighting over what to name the roads and circles. It’s a joke. At this rate India will not develop or progress even in the next 100 years.

    This is development according to our double engine government. Instead of improving the traffic chaos at the junction or improving the road surface, they are good at only naming traffic junctions. Why didnt that fraud surathkal toll collection close? Why didnt the fraud suratkal toll company build two way flover in Surathkal, Kottara junctions? Fans of the double engine govt cannot ask these questions. They can only rename circles !!

    Surathkal junction was developed by MLA Mouddin Bava. If he was reelected we would have had modern bus station with car parking and shopping centre. So keep the name B. A. Bava circle .

    Our MLA's or MP's are not able to get good roads but they are very good in changing names of roads or roundabouts. We need to name our roads in the name of MP's and MLA's and everytime when he travel on that road all need to curse these MP's or MLA's and teach them a lesson in next election.

    Have you seen the cell where Savarkar was put? So why the British chose to put savarkar to jail? When he was put on solitary confinement for the rest of the life., the only way he could escape was to send apology letters. that can be termed tactical as he was not put to instant death. IF Tippu srrendered his own blood that is his two sons to the british for his and his kingdoms safetey and yet be called as freedom fighter, then Savarkar deserves better.
