Riyadh, Feb 24: Riyadh, capital city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia came under a severe sandstorm on Monday February 23.  It eventually spread to the eastern province like Al-Hassa, Dammam, Khobar and Jubail.

When people came out of their homes in the morning for going to their workplaces/ offices, they could see the atmosphere with sand rains spread all over. It has given the impression that they could see the matrix of dusk as they hardly see the crack of dawn. It was as if everything under the sun was covered with sand. People travelling on their vehicles had to switch on the headlights and hazard lights to avoid accidents.

Even the tall buildings were covered with sand.  On an interesting note Meteorology & Environment Office situated near the King Khalid international airport was hardly visible as it was also not exempted by the nature. ATC tower and other buildings of Riyadh international airport including the airstrip were not seen at all.

In short, the whole atmosphere got contaminated with the sandy substances spread far and wide.  As it is reported, this type of climatic change would cause health problem especially for children. It was quite visible that nature plays different games to subdue the men, who most of the times venture to restrain the nature.

Thanks Ronald for your piece of information. You've described it from the geographical point-of-view. However, my foresight was on the "warning" perspective. Nevertheless, I think, either way it is of utmost importance.

I must politely disagree with Patrick. This is not a totally unexpected event. Sandstorms and duststorms are to be expected in Arabia since it has the second largest desert area. Disturbed arid and semiarid soils is a pre-requisite for duststorms just as atmospheric instability which make it go very high in the lower atmosphere. For instance dust from African nations like Mauritania, Senegal etc can travel out of the borders of the continent all the way to the Canary and Cape Verde islands and some dust has even been found to have reached the Carribean Islands such as Barbados !

God's signs of warning to mankind. Several of these were issued in the past... the first starting with the Tsunami in Dec 2005. This is another of those warnings. Mankind's days are numbered on this earth.
