Jamshedpur, Mar 5: A 30-year-old man did not bathe for 474 days as he had vowed not to do so till former Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda visited his village and pledged to work for the ouster of the Madhu Koda-led government in the state.
Jagadish Mahato, a resident of Naraindih village near here and a staunch supporter of Munda, took a vow not to bathe the day Koda-led UPA government took over in Jharkhand about a year ago.
Mahato, initially went without food for 17 days, but broke his fast when members of his family pleaded with him as his health was deteriorating. He, however, stuck to his decision not to bathe and which he did only after Munda visited his village and spoke to him a week ago.
Mahato even refused to bathe after the death of his uncle three months ago. “I was really surprised when the villagers of Naraindih told me recently about Mahato's vow and requested me to visit the village,” said Munda.
“I decided to go to the village immediately. After I met Mahato he agreed to start bathing again. I took him to a hanuman temple and promised to leave no stone unturned to remove the inefficient Jharkhand government from power,” he said.
