Chennai, May 8: In a heartening example of perseverance and the power of education, 70-year-old Raani from Coimbatore has passed the Tamil Nadu Class 12 board examinations, scoring 346 out of 600 marks, and proving that age is no barrier to academic success.

Living alone after her husband’s death, Raani had long harboured the dream of continuing her studies. Her determination paid off as she cleared the Higher Secondary Examination with the following scores:

• Tamil: 89
• History: 52
• English: 50

Her story has quickly gained attention and admiration, becoming a beacon of hope for others who may have given up on education due to age or circumstance.

Her achievement came as Tamil Nadu recorded a 95.03% pass percentage in the Class 12 exams this year—an improvement over last year’s performance. Ariyalur district topped the list with 98.82%, followed by Erode at 97.98%.

Highlights from this year’s results:

• 9,536 students scored full marks in Computer Science
• 3,181 students achieved centum in Chemistry
• 3,022 scored full marks in Mathematics

Exams were held from March 3 to March 25 at over 3,300 centers. More than 45,000 teachers and 4,800 flying squads were deployed to ensure fairness and transparency.
