Congress believes in politics of disruption: Naidu

New Delhi, July 31 (IANS): Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said the government wants to break the parliament impasse but the opposition, particularly the Congress, was only "interested in politics of disruption".

Naid told reporters: "Government wanted to walk an extra mile to break the impasse in parliament but the opposition -- Congress and Left didn't cooperate."

In a scathing attack on the Congress, Naidu said the party was only "interested in politics of disruption".

"We are open to have a meeting with opposition leaders and I had asked for an all-party meet in the Lok Sabha while Naqvi ji (Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi) made a similar demand in Rajya Sabha, but Congress asked to postpone it," he said.

"We have always been willing to debate on issues with the Opposition but the Congress is interested in politics of disruption," he added.

The Opposition, led by the Congress, on Friday continued its protest in the Lok Sabha over former IPL chief Lalit Modi and the Vyapam issues.

Friday marked the end of the second week of the monsoon session of parliament which started on July 21. The first two weeks did not witness any major transaction of business.
