Hyderabad, May 6: In a compassionate and practical move, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has reassigned a bus conductor whose unusual height made it difficult for him to carry out regular duties inside buses.

Ameen Ahmed Ansari, posted at the Mehdipatnam depot in Hyderabad, stands 6.5 feet (198 cm) tall—slightly taller than the average bus interior height of 6.4 feet. This mismatch created daily challenges, forcing him to remain bent while moving through the aisle and issuing tickets.

Over time, the strain led to persistent neck and back pain, making it increasingly difficult for him to manage long shifts that often stretched to 10 hours and involved multiple trips. Recognizing the physical toll, Ansari had approached authorities seeking alternative responsibilities better suited to his condition.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar escalated the matter to chief minister A. Revanth Reddy, recommending a reassignment within the corporation. Acting on this, TGSRTC initially placed Ansari in an out-of-designation role for one year, which concluded on April 28, 2026.

With his difficulties continuing, the corporation has now extended support by approving his placement in alternative roles. As per the latest order, Ansari may be assigned duties at bus pass sections or even at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, depending on operational needs.

For Ansari, who joined the service on compassionate grounds after his father—a conductor at the Kachiguda depot—passed away in 2021, the decision brings much-needed relief.

The corporation’s response has been widely appreciated, with many praising the effort to accommodate an employee facing unique workplace challenges and ensure his well-being without compromising his livelihood.
