Melbourne, Nov 3: Australian allrounder Glenn Maxwell on Monday announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing the curtain down on a career spanning more than a decade.
The 38-year-old, known for his aggressive batting and ability to change the course of a match, represented Australia in all three formats and was part of the teams that won the 2015 and 2023 One-Day International (ODI) World Cups.
Maxwell made his ODI debut against Afghanistan in August 2012 and went on to play 149 matches, scoring 3,990 runs, including a career-best 201. He also claimed 77 wickets at an average of 47.32, with best figures of 4/40.

He made his T20 International debut against Pakistan in September 2012 and featured in 130 matches, scoring 2,897 runs and taking 51 wickets. His highest score in the format was 145, while his best bowling figures were 3/10.
In Test cricket, Maxwell played seven matches after making his debut against India in 2013. His highest score was 104, also against India, while his best bowling figures were 4/127.
His biggest achievements came in limited-overs cricket. Besides being part of Australia's two ODI World Cup-winning squads, Maxwell also played a key role in the team's triumph at the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE. In the final against New Zealand in Dubai, he scored an unbeaten 28 off 18 balls and hit the winning boundary. He also bowled four overs, conceding 28 runs without taking a wicket.
Maxwell's international career had faced uncertainty in recent years amid concerns over his form. He retired from ODI cricket in June 2025. In February this year, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting had also suggested that Maxwell's career was approaching its end.
