Thane, Nov 1: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured the family of slain Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Pradeep Purnekar that no accused in the murder case would be protected and that the family would get justice.

Purnekar's son, Ram Purnekar, met Fadnavis in Thane and sought his intervention in the case. The meeting took place at the residence of BJP leader Niranjan Davkhare, where the two held an important discussion behind closed doors.

During the meeting, Ram questioned why the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had not arrested former Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) mayor Meenakshi Shinde and her husband Rajendra Shinde, despite their names allegedly figuring in a supplementary statement recorded at Kapurbawdi police station.

He also pointed out that the SIT, the Anti-Extortion Cell and the Crime Branch had so far arrested five suspects in connection with the murder. All five are currently in judicial custody.

Taking note of the serious allegations and demands raised by the Purnekar family, Fadnavis reportedly assured them that the investigation would be impartial and conducted strictly in accordance with the law. He also said that no pressure or interference would be tolerated.

The names of local leaders linked to the ruling side have figured in the allegations surrounding the case, adding to political tensions in Thane.
