Mangaluru, Oct 26: Vehicle purchases usually surge during the festive season, particularly during Dasara. Lacs of vehicles have been sold across Karnataka during the Dasara period this year.

Mangaluru, one of Karnataka's prominent cities, is ahead of other cities in the state when it comes to purchasing luxury cars. In Dakshina Kannada (DK) district, a comparison of car and two-wheeler purchases during this year's Dasara period shows that car sales are keeping pace with the strong demand for bikes. A total of 561 cars and 1,679 two-wheelers were sold in the district over the 10 days of Dasara. More than 20% of the cars sold were luxury vehicles valued at over Rs 25 lac. Every year, vehicle sales witness a significant surge from Ganeshotsava to Deepavali. A similar buying trend is also seen during Akshaya Tritiya.

When vehicle purchase figures across the country are compared, two-wheelers account for around 70% of sales. However, in Mangaluru, car purchases are also keeping pace with two-wheeler sales.

The vehicle sales figures for Dakshina Kannada district during the 10-day Dasara period show that Bantwal recorded sales of 59 cars and 221 bikes, while Puttur registered 110 car sales and 356 bike sales. Mangaluru accounted for 392 cars and 1,102 bikes. The combined figures for the three RTO regions stood at 561 cars and 1,679 two-wheelers.
