Bantwal, Sep 21: A public pathway in the Babanakatte area of Ananthadi village, which had been closed and caused inconvenience to students and local residents, has been temporarily reopened following media reports and the intervention of the chief minister’s officer on special duty (OSD).
The pathway has now been cleared temporarily, allowing the public to resume movement along the route.
The development follows media reports highlighting the difficulties faced by students and the public after the pathway in Babanakatte was closed.
Taking note of the media report, Dr K Vaishnavi, officer on special duty (OSD) to the chief minister, wrote to the Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner directing the authorities to verify the facts of the matter, take immediate necessary action and submit a compliance report to her office.
Acting on the directive, the revenue inspector of Vittal hobli conducted a spot inspection and submitted a report on September 10, Bantwal tahsildar said.
According to the revenue department’s report, a traditional pedestrian pathway through 0.24 acres of patta land in Survey No. 137/201 of Ananthadi village had long provided access to the areas of Poonjavu, Nadumane and Sudhekattimaru.
The land is registered in the name of Bhagyalakshmi K Hegde, and the pathway had been closed.
During the spot inspection, the pattadar was brought to the site and discussions were held. Following the discussions, the blocked pathway was temporarily reopened, enabling the public to use it, the report stated.
Meanwhile, authorities have begun steps to survey government land in Survey No. 136/2A1 of Ananthadi village and identify the government land linked to a road that had earlier been shown in the plotting/layout.
Officials have been instructed to measure the land and submit a report on the possibility of providing a suitable road connection through the route.
The Bantwal tahsildar said the public would be allowed to continue using the existing pathway as before until the process is completed.
Thus, following the media reports and subsequent official intervention, the immediate obstruction to public movement has been removed. The authorities are now undertaking the land survey and identification process aimed at establishing a suitable and more permanent road connection to the affected areas.
