Mangaluru, Sep 19: Carmel School, organized a special felicitation programme to honour the dedicated private vehicle drivers who ensure the safe daily commute of students, combined with an informative awareness session on child safety and the POCSO Act.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome delivered by the principal, Sr Rosevera AC, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the drivers for their unwavering commitment and vigilance. The event was anchored by teacher Shilas, who served as the master of ceremonies.
The chief guest for the occasion was Priya Rajmohan, administrator of the Sakhi One Stop Centre, Dakshina Kannada, under the Department of Women and Child Development. Teacher Shanthi formally introduced the chief guest to the gathering. The event was also graced by the vice principal and two police officials.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Priya Rajmohan highlighted the vital role that auto and van drivers play in a student's daily life. She shared touching instances of how children bond emotionally with their drivers and trust them with their daily stories. Emphasizing the responsibilities that come with this trust, she elaborated on the provisions of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and child safety protocols. She urged drivers to remain observant and proactive, advising them to immediately notify the school administration or parents if they notice any sudden behavioural changes or distress in a child.
A total of 30 private vehicle drivers attended the programme. During the event, an oath was solemnized where the drivers pledged their commitment to prioritizing child safety, vigilance, and protection at all times. Representing the driver community, Gopal Krishna shared his feedback, expressing sincere gratitude to the school management and staff for organizing such a meaningful, respectful, and educational initiative.
As a gesture of appreciation, a token of love was presented to each of the 30 drivers present. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by teacher Sandhya, followed by refreshments.
