Mangaluru: Engineers’ Day 2026 celebrated with innovation, knowledge, technology at YSET

Mangaluru, Sep 16: The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Yenepoya School of Engineering & Technology (YSET), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), celebrated Engineers’ Day 2026 with a series of activities under the theme ‘Ideas, Technology & Impact.’

The celebration featured three major programmes — INGENIUM 2026 – The engineering quiz, INNOVATEX 2026 – Students’ innovation & project showcase, and INSIGHTX 2026 – Tech talk, providing students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge, showcase innovation, and engage with contemporary developments in engineering and technology.

The programme commenced with a visual tribute to the legendary engineer sir M Visvesvaraya, commemorating his significant contributions to engineering and nation-building. This was followed by an engineers’ pledge, in which the participants pledged to uphold ethical values and strive to become responsible engineers committed to serving society.

The programme was formally inaugurated by the chief guest, Prof Dr Udaykumar R Yaragatti, professor (Higher Academic Grade), former director-in-charge, NITK Surathkal and NIT Goa, and director, Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur. He was felicitated in recognition of his distinguished contributions to engineering education and administration.

As part of the celebrations, INGENIUM 2026 – The Engineering Quiz was conducted in two stages, comprising of an online preliminary round followed by an offline final. The final featured three rounds — MCQ, audio-visual, and rapid-fire — testing participants’ engineering knowledge, observation skills and quick thinking.

INNOVATEX 2026 – Students’ innovation & project showcase provided a platform for students to present innovative ideas and technology-based solutions to real-world problems. Thirteen shortlisted teams competed in the showcase, presenting a range of creative and technically oriented projects.

The celebrations also featured INSIGHTX 2026 – Tech talk, delivered by Prof Dr Udaykumar R Yaragatti on the topic ‘Engineering the future: Innovation, intelligence & impact.’ The session focused on the evolving landscape of engineering, emerging technologies, innovation, problem-solving, interdisciplinary thinking and the societal impact of intelligent technologies. Students were encouraged to look beyond conventional academic learning, identify real-world challenges, and develop creative and technology-driven solutions. The session also provided an opportunity for students to gain insights into engineering education, technology, leadership and future opportunities.

The Engineers’ Day celebration brought together knowledge, innovation, creativity and technological perspectives, giving students a platform to demonstrate their engineering capabilities while reflecting on the contributions and legacy of sir M Visvesvaraya.
