Puttur: Police thwart illegal cattle transport, rescue three animals; one arrested

Puttur, Aug 23: The Puttur town police on Sunday intercepted a pick-up vehicle and rescued three cattle that were being transported illegally for slaughter. The police arrested the driver and seized the vehicle along with the animals.

Acting on a reliable tip-off about illegal cattle transport from Anadka towards Padil, police sub-inspector Suresh C T and his personnel intercepted a pick-up vehicle bearing registration number KA 19 D 0948 at Jidekallu in Chikkamudnoor village.

Upon inspection, the police found three cattle tied up in a cruel and inhumane manner inside the vehicle. During interrogation, the driver, identified as Mohammed Jabbar, confessed that he had purchased the cattle from a person named Ashok, a resident of Shanthigodu village. He admitted that the animals were being transported for the purpose of slaughter without any valid permits.

The police took the accused into custody and seized both the vehicle and the cattle.

A case has been registered at the Puttur town police station (FIR No 101/2026) under section 11(D) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, sections 4, 5, and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act 2020, and section 66 read with 192 (A) of the Indian Motor Vehicles (IMV) Act. Further investigation is underway.
