Udupi, Aug 11: An art competition and exhibition organised by Udupi Konkans and Daddyzart.com to commemorate the 90th birthday of renowned international artist Peter Lewis was held at Anugraha Pastoral Centre, Kakkunje, Udupi, on Sunday, August 9.
The programme was compered by Leslie Aroza. Fr Vincent Crasta, director of the Pastoral Centre; Dr Vincent Alva of Udupi Konkans; writer Clarence Fernandes Thottam; Fr Valerian D’Lima; and Reagan Lewis (MD- DaddyzArt) were among those present.

Fr Vincent Crasta led the opening prayers, while Dr Vincent Alva welcomed the gathering.
In his introductory address, Clarence Fernandes Thottam highlighted the significance of art and the role of artists in society. He said there is a significant difference between an artist and a common person in the way they perceive and express the world.
He noted that art has not always received the recognition it deserves in local communities, while it is highly valued in Western societies. He said the competition was organised to provide an encouraging platform for budding and enthusiastic artists.
Referring to Peter Lewis, he described him as a senior and internationally recognised artist and said Udupi Konkans aims to promote art and artists by providing them with a proper platform to showcase their talent.
The competition was conducted in three categories — children aged 12 years and below, participants aged 13 to 19, and those aged 20 and above. A large number of artists from different age groups participated in the competition.
The artworks will be exhibited at Anugraha Pastoral Centre until Wednesday, August 12, from 10 am to 7 pm.
The award ceremony will be held at the same venue on August 12 from 4 pm to 7 pm.
All are invited for the award ceremony.
