Mangaluru, Aug 10: A pointsman’s quick action saved the life of an elderly man who fell onto the railway tracks while attempting to board a moving train at Surathkal railway station on Monday.

The incident occurred on a train travelling from Mumbai towards Mangaluru. The elderly passenger was rescued by pointsman Sandeep Naik, who was on duty at the station when the incident occurred.

The train had stopped at Surathkal railway station when the elderly man got down and went to a shop at the station. By the time he returned, the train had started moving. He reportedly left behind the item he had obtained from the shopkeeper and rushed towards the train in an attempt to board it.



However, he lost his balance while trying to board the moving train and fell onto the tracks, narrowly escaping being caught under its wheels. Sandeep Naik, who was on duty on the platform and noticed the incident, immediately rushed to the spot, pulled the elderly man away from the tracks and lifted him to safety.

The prompt action by Sandeep Naik has earned appreciation from the Railway Department as well as members of the public for saving the elderly man from a potentially fatal accident.
