Beltangady, Jul 24: The Beltangady Forest Department has registered a case against two persons for allegedly felling and transporting timber illegally from government land and private property at Gutthu in Puduvettu village of Beltangady taluk.

Forest officials detected that trees had been illegally cut from government land as well as land in the possession of Dinesh Gowda and transported in a lorry.

During the operation, officials seized 15 cubic metres of timber logs, firewood, and the lorry used for transportation. The total value of the seized property, including the vehicle, is estimated at Rs 6.30 lac.

A case has been registered against Dinesh Gowda (41), a resident of Puduvettu village, and lorry driver Shahadunni Mohammed (27), a resident of Ira village in Bantwal. Further investigation is underway.

The operation was led by Beltangady range forest officer Mahesh M Devadiga. Deputy forest officers Ravichandra and Nagesh, forest guards Ravi Jatti, Parashuram, Veeresh and Pratap Kumar, and driver Kushal Gowda also participated in the operation.
