Mangaluru, Jul 20: Recognising their outstanding performance over the past six months, the Mangaluru city police commissioner on Monday, July 20, awarded commendation letters to 29 police officers and presented cash prizes and commendation letters to 118 police personnel. The personnel were felicitated for their exceptional work in crime detection, curbing cybercrimes, narcotics control, and maintaining law and order within the police commissionerate limits.

During this period, the police successfully arrested the accused in 24 long-pending cases and tracked down several absconding individuals holding non-bailable warrants. In the year 2026, the department has cracked 88 property theft cases, apprehending the culprits and recovering stolen valuables worth approximately Rs 1 crore 20 lac.

The police have also cracked down heavily on the drug menace in the city, registering 84 cases against drug peddlers and arresting 142 accused to initiate strict legal action. Additionally, 346 cases were filed related to drug consumption, resulting in the detention of 443 individuals. Police gathered crucial information regarding peddling networks from the consumers to facilitate further action.

Personnel who excelled in tackling cybercrimes were also lauded during the event. The department's continuous awareness programmes across the city have led to a noticeable decline in cyber fraud cases this year. Officers and staff who ensured swift action through the 1930 helpline to freeze and recover defrauded money were felicitated. Furthermore, the cybercrime team was commended for a remarkable achievement in busting a major investment fraud network operating from Nepal and assisting in tracing cybercriminals across various states in the country.

The city police have also maintained a strict vigil on social media platforms, initiating stern action against those spreading hate speech, misinformation, and provocative messages. Personnel who played a key role in these efforts to maintain peace and harmony were recognised, alongside investigating officers, assisting staff, and court personnel who ensured high-quality investigations that led to the conviction of culprits in major cases.

Finally, officers and staff attached to the wireless division and the 112 emergency response system were honoured with commendation letters for their prompt response to public grievances, successful management of major security bandobasts without any untoward incidents, and overall maintenance of law and order in the city.
