Kuwait, Jun 27: A campaign on X (Twitter) demanding a dedicated ministry for Non-Resident Kannadigas (NRKs) emerged as the No.1 trending topic in India and the Gulf region, drawing widespread attention.
The campaign was organised under the leadership of Ronald Colaco, patron of the International Kannadiga Federation, with the participation of Kannadigas living across the globe. The campaign began at 6 pm Indian Standard Time on Friday and received strong support on social media.

The initiative was launched after Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced plans to establish a separate ministry for Non-Resident Kannadigas. The participants urged the government to implement the proposed ministry at the earliest.
More than 200 Kannada organisations operating in different countries joined the campaign and thousands of Kannadigas extended their support through social media, making the initiative a major success.
Speaking about the campaign, Ronald Colaco said the demand for a separate ministry for Non-Resident Kannadigas has been raised for several decades.
“We have been demanding a dedicated ministry for Non-Resident Kannadigas for many years. It is a matter of happiness that D K Shivakumar has announced this initiative. Now, our request is that it should be implemented soon and provide a new direction for the development and welfare of Kannadigas living abroad,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to all Kannada organisations and NRKs who participated in the campaign, Colaco said the campaign reaching the No.1 trending position in India reflected the unity of Kannadigas and the strength of their demand.
He expressed confidence that D K Shivakumar would soon take steps to establish the Non-Resident Kannadiga ministry and fulfil the long-standing demand of the community.
