Mangaluru, June 15: St Aloysius Deemed to be University, Mangaluru, has introduced a unique and contemporary design to the M A in Kannada curriculum, a programme that has been traditionally offered in Karnataka for over a century.
By integrating various technical subjects from the modern digital world and other employment-oriented sectors into Kannada studies, St Aloysius has sought to enhance career opportunities for today’s Kannada-speaking Gen Z students.

The primary objective of this new-age M A in Kannada programme is to prepare students for employment opportunities in fields such as:
• Digital Communication
• Entertainment industries, including big screen (cinema) and small screen (television)
• Media and the translation industry
• Artificial Intelligence and Prompt Engineering
• Content writing and Scriptwriting
• Advertising
• Stage Management
Traditional subjects and texts, including all forms of Kannada literature, literary history, criticism, folklore and poetics, which are beneficial for competitive examinations such as KAS and IAS, have been incorporated into the programme in their entirety. As a result, students completing the M A degree will also be well prepared for high-level competitive examinations.
The curriculum has been meticulously designed to blend traditional and contemporary components seamlessly, ensuring that career opportunities in teaching are not compromised while modern concepts and industry requirements are fully addressed.
During the development of the curriculum, guidance and technical assistance were sought from a Board of Studies comprising Kannada digital communication experts from Bengaluru and Mysuru, specialists from the entertainment industry, and literary critics committed to the growth of Kannada.
The vice-chancellor of the University, Dr Praveen Martis SJ, stated in a press release that the M A in Kannada programme, which will commence from the 2026–27 academic year, is a novel contribution from St Aloysius Deemed to be University to the land of Kannada.
