Udupi, Jun 15: A major tragedy was averted in Manipal on Monday after a school bus driver suffered a sudden heart attack while driving but managed to steer the vehicle to safety before losing control.

The incident occurred when a bus belonging to a private school was transporting students. The driver, identified as Suresh Sannakkibettu (54), reportedly experienced sudden chest pain and fell ill while driving.

Realising the seriousness of the situation, Suresh attempted to pull the bus to the side of the road before completely losing control of the vehicle. During the manoeuvre, the bus collided with a road divider.

Fortunately, all the students on board escaped unharmed, and no serious injuries were reported. Authorities and witnesses noted that the driver's presence of mind and timely action helped prevent what could have been a major accident.

Local residents and school staff immediately rushed to assist the driver and shifted him to a hospital for treatment. Doctors are currently attending to him, and further details regarding his health condition are awaited.
