Mangaluru: Madanthyar businessman and philanthropist Valerian Maxim Rodrigues dies at 89

Mangaluru, June 6: Valerian Maxim Rodrigues, the respected owner of Nutan Cloth Centre, Madanthyar, and a widely admired community figure, passed away on Saturday, June 6, at the age of 89. He had been undergoing treatment for age-related health complications over the past few months.

Inspired by his father, Rodrigues entered the textile trade and established Nutan Cloth Centre with the aim of providing quality clothing at affordable prices for the common public. Over the years, he earned a reputation not only as a successful entrepreneur but also as a socially conscious business leader known for his employee-friendly approach.

His progressive leadership style and commitment to welfare initiatives earned him widespread respect in the business community. Alongside his commercial work, he was actively involved in philanthropic activities and was recognised as a generous benefactor and social worker across the Madanthyar and Ujire regions. He was also regarded as a pillar of the Catholic community in the Belthangady region, where he supported several community development initiatives.

Rodrigues leaves behind a significant legacy and is survived by his wife Valerine Karl, children Sunil, Jyothi, Rajesh, Prakash and Lavina, as well as a large circle of relatives and well-wishers.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church, Madanthyar.

Prior to the service, the public will be allowed to pay their last respects from 9 am at the premises of Nutan Cloth Centre.
