Bengaluru ranks third in India for crimes against women: NCRB Report

Bengaluru, Jun 2: Despite several measures initiated by the police department to curb crimes against women, Bengaluru has ranked third among 19 metropolitan cities in the country in cases related to crimes against women, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2024 report.

Delhi and Mumbai secured the first and second positions respectively on the list. In 2024, Bengaluru recorded 4,748 cases of crimes against women, compared to 4,870 cases reported in 2023.

A marginal decline was recorded in rape cases, with 168 cases registered in 2024, which is one case less than in 2023. Similarly, cases of sexual harassment dropped from 210 to 180.

However, Bengaluru ranked first in cases related to cruelty against women, with 897 cases reported. The city also stood third in cases involving assault or attempts to disrobe women, with 66 cases registered.

In dowry death cases, Bengaluru shared the fourth position with Jaipur, recording 25 cases.

Among crimes against women reported across the 19 metropolitan cities, cases related to cruelty by husbands or relatives accounted for 28.4 percent, followed by kidnapping and abduction of women at 20.1 percent. Cases related to assault on women accounted for 9.2 percent.
