Mangaluru, Aug 3: A 33-year-old warrant accused who had been absconding for nearly seven years and had failed to appear before courts despite more than 30 warrants being issued against him has been arrested by the Special Task Team of the Mangaluru South Sub-Division.

The accused has been identified as Ummar Nawaf (33), a native of Margathale in Ullal taluk. He was currently residing at Nazia Manzil, Gerukatte, Kundappu, Manjeshwar, Pavoor Post, Kasargod district in Kerala.

Police said more than 13 criminal cases have been registered against Ummar Nawaf. As he had remained absent from court proceedings for several years, various courts had issued more than 30 warrants against him.

Acting under the guidance of the assistant commissioner of police, Mangaluru South Sub-Division, the Special Task Team traced and apprehended the accused on Sunday, August 2. The process of producing him before the court is underway.

In connection with Ullal police station Crime Nos. 206/2012, 27/2017 and 183/2017, proclamation orders had been issued against the accused as per court directions. Further, in Ullal police station Crime No. 276/2015, the court had declared the case as a Long Pending Case (LPC).

The accused is being produced before the court, following which further legal action will be initiated.
