Udupi, May 30: The Lokayukta Police conducted a surprise raid on the office of the Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) on Friday following complaints that hundreds of files had been kept pending unnecessarily.

The raid began at around 3 pm under the leadership of Lokayukta DySP Hala Moorthi Rao. The operation involved two inspectors and 16 personnel. Officials continued the inspection late into the night.

According to complaints received by the Lokayukta, files that should ordinarily be disposed of within 15 to 20 days had been kept pending for extended periods without justification. During the surprise inspection, officials reportedly found more than 200 files that had been unnecessarily left pending.

Authorities suspect that the files may have been delayed either due to demands for money or for other undisclosed reasons. An investigation will be conducted to determine the exact reasons for keeping such a large number of files pending and whether there was any ulterior motive behind the delays.

DySP Hala Moorthi Rao said that the inquiry is underway and that the Lokayukta operation is likely to continue on Saturday as well.
