New Delhi, May 13: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced that it has crossed the milestone of dispatching more than 30 lakh vehicles through the Indian Railways network, marking a major step in the company’s transition towards environmentally sustainable logistics operations.
The country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer said the use of rail transport in its outbound logistics system has grown significantly over the past decade. While rail accounted for only 5 per cent of total vehicle dispatches in FY2014-15, the share has now increased to 26.5 per cent in FY2025-26.

According to the company, the jump from two million to three million cumulative rail dispatches was achieved in just 21 months, making it the fastest addition of one million railway-based vehicle movements in its history.
Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi described the achievement as an important milestone in the company’s green mobility and sustainable logistics strategy. He said rail dispatch volumes have grown nearly nine-fold since 2014 and now account for more than one-fourth of the company’s total outbound vehicle transportation.
The company also revealed that it has committed over Rs 13,720 million towards the development of dedicated green logistics infrastructure aimed at improving efficiency while lowering environmental impact.
Maruti Suzuki credited the government’s PM GatiShakti National Master Plan for helping create an integrated multimodal logistics ecosystem that has encouraged industries to increasingly adopt rail-based freight transportation.
Looking ahead, the automaker plans to raise the proportion of rail dispatches to 35 per cent by FY2030-31. As part of this strategy, it intends to build an in-plant railway siding at its upcoming Kharkhoda manufacturing facility, a move expected to reduce carbon emissions, fuel consumption, and road traffic congestion.
The company stated that it is currently the only passenger vehicle manufacturer in India operating railway sidings within two of its manufacturing plants — located at Hansalpur in Gujarat and Manesar in Haryana — both developed under the PM GatiShakti initiative.
Together, these two facilities are capable of dispatching up to 7.5 lakh vehicles annually through the rail network. Maruti Suzuki’s rail logistics system presently connects over 600 cities across the country through 22 hubs operating under a hub-and-spoke distribution model.
