Memphis, May 13: Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke passed away at the age of 29, the NBA franchise confirmed on Tuesday, leaving the basketball world in shock and grief.
The team announced the news in an official statement, describing Clarke as an outstanding teammate and a respected member of the Memphis community. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke. Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organisation and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten,” the Grizzlies said.
Clarke, who spent his entire NBA career with Memphis, was selected in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft and later earned a place in the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
Over seven NBA seasons, the forward averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds and became known for his energetic performances and versatility on the court.
The 29-year-old had missed a significant part of the current season due to injuries.
News of Clarke’s sudden death triggered an outpouring of condolences from players, fans, and members of the NBA fraternity, many of whom remembered him for his positive personality and commitment to the sport.
Last month, Clarke had reportedly been arrested on charges related to trafficking and possession of a controlled substance, fleeing in a vehicle while exceeding the speed limit, and improper passing. However, authorities have not indicated any connection between those allegations and his death.
Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding his passing are awaited.
