Kin’s harassment drives married woman to suicide in Nanded

Nanded, May 8: A shocking incident that has cast a shadow over the brother-sister relationship has come to light in Maharashtra’s Nanded district, where a 21-year-old married woman allegedly died by suicide following continuous harassment by a relative identified as her cousin brother.

The incident was reported from Loni village in Ardhapur taluk. Police have registered a case against the accused youth.

The deceased has been identified as Rutuja Sudhir Lone. According to police sources, she had recently got married.

Family members alleged that despite her marriage, a youth identified as Praful Sunil Lone was allegedly harassing her continuously and threatening to disrupt her married life.

He reportedly told her, “I like you. If you do not come with me, I will destroy your family life.”

Sources said the accused was related to the victim as a brother, making the incident more disturbing.

The matter allegedly came to the notice of both her parental and in-laws’ families. Distressed over the situation and fearing social humiliation, the woman allegedly jumped into a well belonging to one Rajesh Lone in the village.

When she was not found at home, her family members launched a search. Her body was later recovered from the well after several hours.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Ardhapur Police Station registered a case against the accused under charges of abetment to suicide.

The investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Kadam, while Police Sub-Inspector Suresh Bhosale is conducting further inquiry.

The incident has triggered shock in the region, with relatives of the deceased making serious allegations against the accused.
