Mangaluru: Water rationing in MCC limits from May 4; supply every alternate day

Mangaluru, Apr 30: With the inflow of the Netravati River coming to a halt and water levels at the Thumbe vented dam receding due to the scorching summer, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to implement water rationing starting May 4.

The rationing system is aimed at ensuring a steady supply of drinking water until the end of the summer season. Under this plan, water will be supplied to the Mangaluru City South and Mangaluru City North areas on alternate days (once every two days).

Supply Schedule

On May 4: Water will be supplied to the following areas via various pumping stations and tanks:

  • Bendoor Pumping Station: Court Ward, Car Street, Bavutagudda Tank, Akashvani, Padavu, Gorigudda, Sooterpete, Shivabagh, Bendoor, Kadri, Vaslane, and Bolur.

  • Padil Pumping Station: Mangaladevi, Attavar, Babugudde, Valencia, Jeppinamogaru, Bikarnakatte, Ullasnagar, Bajal, Thiruvail, and Vamanjoor.

  • Shaktinagar Tank: Kunjathbail, Mugrody, Shaktinagar, Sanjay Nagar, Preeti Nagar, Mandka, Rajiv Nagar, Bondel, Gandhinagar, Shanthinagar, and Kavoor.

  • Thumbe-Panambur Direct Line: Kankanady, Naguri, Pumpwell, Ballur Gudde, and Padil.

On May 5: Water will be supplied to the following areas:

  • Panambur Pumping Station: Surathkal, NITK, Mukka, Hosabettu, Kulai, Janata Colony, Baikampady, Panambur, and Meenakaliya.

  • Padil Pumping Station: Bajal, Jalligudde, Mugeer, Ekkur, Sadashivanagar, Alape, Meghanagar, Manjalike, Kankanady Railway Station area, Kudupu, Pandeshwar, State Bank, Goodshed, Bunder, Kannur, Niddel, Shivanagar, Kodakkal, Nooji, Saripalla, Ullas Nagar, and Veera Nagar.

  • Shaktinagar Tank: Kandettu, Kulshekar, Maroli, Kakkebettu, Silver Gate, Konguru Math, and Prashant Nagar.

  • Thumbe-Panambur Direct Line: MUDA Pump House, Kottara Chowki Pump House, Kulur Pump House, Kapikad, Daddalkad area, and Bangra Kulur.

The MCC Commissioner stated that this alternate-day supply cycle will continue until further notice.

Restrictions and Penalties To conserve water, connections to building and construction sites, as well as vehicle service centres, will be disconnected until further instructions. The Commissioner warned that if members of the public are found wasting water unnecessarily, their connections will be severed without prior notice.
