Mangaluru, Apr 30: On the occasion of World Asthma Day, Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute has announced a Free Asthma Screening Week from May 4 to 9 aimed at promoting awareness, early diagnosis, and proper treatment of asthma.
Speaking about the initiative, consultant pulmonologist Dr Keerthan Ganapathi said people should focus on identifying the causes and triggers of asthma and ensure the correct use of prescribed medications for effective disease management.

World Asthma Day will be observed on May 5, 2026, with the objective of making treatment accessible to all sections of society and creating awareness about recognising triggers and using medicines correctly.
As part of the screening week, consultations with specialist pulmonologists will be offered completely free of cost. Patients requiring further evaluation can also avail themselves of a 50 per cent discount on spirometry tests, which measure lung function and help detect airway obstruction, enabling accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
Prior appointment is mandatory for participation. Interested individuals can register by contacting 6361687385.
The hospital stated that the screening camp is open to people suffering from breathing difficulties, those already diagnosed with asthma, children and adults experiencing frequent cough or allergies, smokers and former smokers, individuals exposed to dust, pollution, or chemicals, those with a family history of asthma or allergies, and anyone wishing to assess their lung health.
The pulmonology department of Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute offers advanced respiratory care under experienced specialists trained in allergy and asthma management.
In addition to regular spirometry, the hospital also provides advanced diagnostic facilities such as Forced Oscillation Technique (FOT), Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) testing, and Skin Prick Tests, which help detect cases that may not be identified through standard screening methods.
The hospital reiterated its commitment to delivering compassionate healthcare services and quality treatment at affordable costs.
