Udupi, Apr 29: The district administration has dismissed two outsourced staff members working under the District Complex Maintenance Committee in connection with the cutting of trees inside the premises of the Udupi deputy commissioner’s office.
Following the recent death of a staff member of the deputy commissioner’s office who came in contact with an electric wire while plucking mangoes, the site had been inspected. Clear instructions were issued to the MESCOM department to submit an estimate for either raising the high-tension power lines or installing underground cables without causing any damage to the trees.

Meanwhile, the administration came to know through media reports on April 27 that trees in the premises had been cut down.
Upon inquiry, it was found that the officer responsible for maintenance of the district complex had committed dereliction of duty by not bringing the matter of tree cutting to the notice of the district administration.
Despite clear directions not to cut any trees or plants, the felling of trees was viewed seriously. Departmental inquiry has been ordered against the member secretary of the core committee of the district office complex, and two outsourced staff members have been dismissed from service, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abid Gadyal said in a statement.
