Pune, Apr 29: Pune City Police have issued a “Leave India Notice” to three American nationals for allegedly violating visa norms by engaging in activities not permitted under tourist visas, officials said on Tuesday.

The three individuals, aged 53, 65 and 66, have been directed to leave India by May 10, 2026.

According to police, the trio had entered India between April 19 and April 21 on tourist visas. An enquiry later found they were allegedly involved in distributing religious literature and interacting with local residents to promote Christianity during their stay.

The matter surfaced on April 27 in Pune’s Shukrawar Peth area, where the three allegedly approached a private cab driver, handed him pamphlets in English, Hindi and Marathi, and attempted to persuade him about their religious beliefs.

The cab driver alerted police personnel deployed nearby for a rally, following which the foreigners were taken to a local police station and their travel documents examined.
Officials said a search of their belongings led to the recovery of a large quantity of printed religious material.

Subsequent enquiries by Pune Police’s Foreigners Registration Office reportedly found that the three had breached conditions attached to their tourist visas by engaging in religious preaching and teaching.

Based on the findings, authorities issued the “Leave India Notice” under provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, directing them to exit the country within the stipulated deadline.
