Puttur rape, cheating case: High Court orders Rs 75,000 monthly maintenance to victim

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Apr 24: The Karnataka High Court has issued an interim stay on the proceedings against Krishna J Rao, son of Puttur-based BJP leader Jagannivasa Rao, in a case involving the alleged rape and impregnation of a woman under the pretext of marriage.

The single-judge bench, presided over by Justice M Nagaprasanna, passed the interim order on Friday while hearing a petition filed by Krishna J Rao seeking to quash the case. The court granted the stay on all further proceedings subject to the condition that the accused pays Rs 75,000 every month to the victim to meet her and the child's requirements.

The court specified that the petitioner must make this payment either personally or through his parents. According to the order, the first installment of Rs 75,000 must be paid to the victim within one week, followed by regular monthly payments thereafter.

The case pertains to allegations that the accused gained the victim's trust with a promise of marriage, subsequently leading to her pregnancy. The High Court's directive ensures financial support for the victim and the child while the legal challenge to the case remains pending.

I appreciate the High Court verdict, but Rs 75,000 can never erase the suffering of the woman and child. A man who abandons his own child after destroying lives deserves strict punishment and should never be trusted with another family.

Even though the court has ordered a payment of 75,000 monthly to the mother and child, it is not sufficient. She deserves a dignified life in society, and the court should also permit her to use his name as the father of her child.

This is why sex education is important in our schools. One condom is much cheaper than Rs. 75,000.00 monthly maintenance charges!!!!
