Bengaluru, Apr 24: The Karnataka High Court has issued an interim stay on the proceedings against Krishna J Rao, son of Puttur-based BJP leader Jagannivasa Rao, in a case involving the alleged rape and impregnation of a woman under the pretext of marriage.

The single-judge bench, presided over by Justice M Nagaprasanna, passed the interim order on Friday while hearing a petition filed by Krishna J Rao seeking to quash the case. The court granted the stay on all further proceedings subject to the condition that the accused pays Rs 75,000 every month to the victim to meet her and the child's requirements.

The court specified that the petitioner must make this payment either personally or through his parents. According to the order, the first installment of Rs 75,000 must be paid to the victim within one week, followed by regular monthly payments thereafter.

The case pertains to allegations that the accused gained the victim's trust with a promise of marriage, subsequently leading to her pregnancy. The High Court's directive ensures financial support for the victim and the child while the legal challenge to the case remains pending.
