Tractor ‘pitch invasion’ halts Dharangaon cricket final

Dharangaon, Apr 20: In an unusual and shocking incident, a cricket match in Dharangaon was disrupted after a tractor was driven onto the field, damaging the pitch during a local tournament final.

The incident occurred on April 12 during the final of the MLA Trophy cricket tournament, when a tractor suddenly entered the stadium and churned up the entire pitch, rendering it unplayable.

According to officials, a local politician, who is the president of the Dharangaon municipal council, allegedly drove the tractor onto the ground in a fit of anger after reportedly not being invited to the event.

Officials said the leader was upset with the organisers for excluding him from the tournament and reacted by vandalising the playing surface.

A video of the incident, which has since gone viral, shows the tractor being driven across the pitch, tearing up the surface while players, organisers and spectators watched in shock.

“The council president acted in a fit of rage,” an official said.

The match was immediately called off due to unsafe playing conditions, raising concerns over security arrangements for teams from Dharangaon and nearby villages.

Local police reached the spot and brought the situation under control soon after the incident.

No formal complaint has been filed, as organisers chose not to escalate the matter further, officials added.
